Can Date Palms be grown indoors?

Seedlings of Young Date Palms would produce pretty indoor plants over a period of years. They need lots of sunlight that comes through a south facing window. When they are full grown, it is difficult to keep them as permanent pets since they are very large and sharp with their spines.
